Horror Movie Poster Analysis

The way this poster is constructed has made it very clear that it is a poster for a horror/ thriller movie. The eerie colours have also reflected the genre of this movie for example the title in red representins blood and when combined with the font which is striking and 'dangerous' especially the letter 't' empahised like a weapon it looks unsafe and automatically puts the two (most likely) main characters in a vulnerable position.
However the woman looks more in a vulnerbale position, because her face is clear, very white and bright. The whiteness suggests that she is innocent but on the other hand scared (loses colour). She especially looks endangered by the man, who has the shadow of the sharp edged weapon, which shows it may belong to him. The weapon (possibly) is in the centre of poster, which shows that film will be based around it, it also shows that the man and woman share something in common, which is the presence of the metal item. However they also look 'torn', because the 'weapon' is on stand right between them. The colours further add to the effect of the poster, for example the center point of the poster is the darkest, which goes lighter and lighter until the edges are white and then white all around, this hints that the man and women are lost in the world of the metal object. Right beneath the womens face is a smaller image of her, which looks as though she is trying to escape, the image is postioned so that she looks as if she can run out in to the whiteness again, however there is also an image of a creature like being underneath the man. When combining the shadow on his face and his empahised eyes it shows that the supernatural being may possibly be the man himself. The birds on the edges of the whiteness, represent freedom as they fly out in to the whiteness, which emphasises that the woman also wants to be freed.

This poster is really useful and beneficial for me, as i will also produce a horror/thriller short film, with supernatural characters. It is a successful poster as it fits the genre, and has shown how i could make a good quality poster that fits with my film genre.
